Free, and not a trial of anything

There is no paid version waiting behind this one, no subscription, and nothing that stops working after thirty days.

Anos em rádios, numa função a seguir à outra, ensinaram-me o mesmo todas as semanas: o trabalho não está na parte engenhosa, está em cem pequenas coisas. Cortar as pausas de uma gravação longa. Fazer com que uma voz gravada na cozinha de alguém fique bem ao lado de uma gravada em estúdio. Pôr música por baixo, verificar o nível, enviar antes da hora.

Os programas em que fazia isso não foram feitos para isso. Foram feitos para música, para cinema ou para vender uma subscrição - e todos tornavam essas cem pequenas coisas um pouco mais difíceis do que era preciso. Ao fim de anos suficientes, o caminho mais curto para uma tarde melhor era escrever o editor que eu queria mesmo.

Por isso o Seston não é um produto com um utilizador algures. É o editor com que faço o meu próprio trabalho, todas as semanas, e é essa a razão pela qual as partes incómodas acabam corrigidas: também me incomodam a mim. Cobrar por ele não o tornaria melhor. Seria apenas decidir quem pode tê-lo.

It was built to be used, not sold

Seston is the editor its author wanted for his own radio and podcast work. That work still happens in it every week, which is why the awkward parts get fixed - they are awkward for him too.

There is nothing to charge for

It runs on your machine. There are no servers doing the work, no accounts to keep, no storage to pay for. A price would be a price for nothing.

No advertising, no data, no bundles

Nothing is collected and sold, nothing is installed alongside it, and no screen is rented out. Free here means free of those as well as free of charge.

What it is not. It is not open source. The program is free to use and to pass on, but the source is not published - one person maintains it and that is the arrangement that keeps it maintained.
