There is no paid version waiting behind this one, no subscription, and nothing that stops working after thirty days.

Anni nelle radio, in un ruolo dopo l'altro, mi hanno insegnato la stessa cosa ogni settimana: il lavoro non sta nella parte brillante, sta in cento piccole cose. Togliere le pause da una registrazione lunga. Far stare una voce registrata nella cucina di qualcuno accanto a una registrata in studio. Metterci sotto una base, controllare il livello, mandarlo prima dell'ora.

I programmi con cui lo facevo non erano fatti per questo. Erano fatti per la musica, per il cinema o per vendere un abbonamento - e tutti rendevano quelle cento piccole cose un po' più difficili del necessario. Dopo abbastanza anni, la via più breve per un pomeriggio migliore era scrivere l'editor che volevo davvero.

Quindi Seston non è un prodotto con un utente da qualche parte. È l'editor con cui faccio il mio lavoro, ogni settimana, ed è tutta qui la ragione per cui le parti scomode vengono sistemate: sono scomode anche per me. Farlo pagare non lo renderebbe migliore. Vorrebbe solo dire decidere chi può averlo.

It was built to be used, not sold

Seston is the editor its author wanted for his own radio and podcast work. That work still happens in it every week, which is why the awkward parts get fixed - they are awkward for him too.

There is nothing to charge for

It runs on your machine. There are no servers doing the work, no accounts to keep, no storage to pay for. A price would be a price for nothing.

No advertising, no data, no bundles

Nothing is collected and sold, nothing is installed alongside it, and no screen is rented out. Free here means free of those as well as free of charge.

What it is not. It is not open source. The program is free to use and to pass on, but the source is not published - one person maintains it and that is the arrangement that keeps it maintained.
